I did a q+a and sang some songs over Skype tonight for a living room full of people who watched the Hi My Name is Ryan documentary tonight in salt lake city.

・・・ Hi My Name Is Ryan at Trunk Space! Xmas in July! (at The Trunk Space) I sang a few songs at lawn gnome bookstores “pink slip” open mic last night. It was my first time performing solo in over a year because I flaked on the last two opportunities I had. I was so nervous (I guess I always am) but it felt great to feel that way again.
Here is a photo of my friend Tristan and I performing at The Smell in Los Angeles (March, 2009) for the “Let’s Find Girlfriends” tour. The girl in the black hoodie sitting on the couch is my wife Sara, this is one of the first nights we ever spoke to each other.
New FREE digital compilation “Live Through THIS!: A 20 Year Anniversary Tribute To Hole’s Best Album” Featuring Red Pony Clock, Treasure Mammal, Cum Stain, toyboat toyboat toyboat, Andy Warpigs, Fancy Pants and MORE! Here is a compilation I put out yesterday, I am really proud of it, everyone did such a good job with their songs (even the ones that were half ass-ed came out great!) and I did a cover of my favorite whole song that is featured at the end.
But I am most proud of the artwork that my wife Sara did. Check out her etsy store and buy something from her. She should have 8x8 prints of this album artwork for sale soon. -JANUARY 20TH - Fathers Day, Playboy Manbaby, Death Ray, Naked Pizza and White Moss @Funny World
-JUNE 16TH - Fathers Day on Fathers Day w/Scorpion vs. Tarantula and Naked Pizza @The Guesthouse -JULY 20TH - Andy Hiller, Hi My Name Is Ryan, Yairms @Lost Leaf -JULY 25TH - Cult of The Yellow Sign, Drunk and Horny Orchestra, The Slow Poisoner, Space Alien Donald and Dinosaur Love @Funny World -AUGUST 30TH - Andy Kaufman and His Grandmother Listening Party @The Trunk Space -SEPTEMBER 1ST - “Let’s (House) Party.” Night One: w/Man-Cat, Fathers Day & Playboy Manbaby @Funny World -OCTOBER 22ND - Quintron & Miss Pussycat: w/Zzz and Fathers Day @The Trunk Space -NOVEMBER 2ND - “10 Years of Cumming Full Circle” Night Two: w/Andrew Jackson Jihad, Treasure Mammal, The Minibosses, Fathers Day, Playboy Manbaby, Hotrock Supajoint and Run-on-Sunshine @The Trunk Space I know Fathers Day played 5/8 of them. I don’t care. most of the shows i went to this year that didn’t include Fathers Day, were terrible. All of these shows listed above had the following things -Solid Lineup / Show Concept -EVERY artist kicked ass and played their best -Fun / enthusiastic audience / people in attendance were in the right state of mind to make the show one of the best.
I think this is an accurate summary of the Funny World show last night. <3 wish I coulda done a lot of things but I’m glad I got to see Playboymanbaby for the second night in a row! The musician performed at lost leaf tonight. It was probably the best response I have ever gotten for this type of performance
I finally organised and collected all of my old mission tapes. Over 30 hours of music, spoken word, answering machines messages, shower songs, church speakers, and field recordings. From my two year mission in Oregon.
2009 was an incredible year for me creatively and it was largely because of this band The Cullens that I was in. Sometime early in the year (lets say April?) my older sister showed me the movie Twilight. I was one of those people who felt it was just another lame teen girl craze and not worth my time, but after some persistence my sister persuaded me to at least give them film a chance.
After watching it I was hooked, it was incredible, no movie has ever reached me the same way Twilight did. By the summer time (I think it was June or July) I had finally convinced my close friends Andrew & Tristan to come over and watch the movie with me. It inspired them so much that during the following weeks we had about 6-7 Twilight parties! each one getting better than the last. It eventually reached a point (once Diana came to a twilight party) that we decided we must start a Twilight band and write rock n roll about this movie. We recruited our good friend Dave to play keyboard and from September-November we wrote and recorded a full length and did a successful 2 week tour from Phoenix, AZ to Forks, WA and back. It was amazing, I am honestly still amazed that we pulled it off and that it kicked so much ass. The band continued to play shows sporadically for the next year and a half, and did a short tour the summer of 2010 up to San Francisco and back. Then we broke up do to lack of excitement for the Twilight series. New Moon was awful and really hard to write songs for, it didn’t make us inspired like the first film did. Anyway, I was just organizing my boxes of old merchandise and I found 3 copies left of our full length CD. there are only 100 in existence, and I thought they were all gone. If you want a copy of this you can order it from the Hi My Name Is Ryan bandcamp. They are only $3.

Hi My Name is Ryan performed live, Wednesday March 20, 2013 9:30 PM PT on laartstream.com Hi My Name Is Ryan (Ryan Avery) This vehicle for Avery's work runs the gamut between monologue, improv, spoken word, and stand-up comedy, with the first performance being set up like a talk show (which led to the creation of Grand Avenue Tonight), and subsequent performances including wrapping the audience in crime scene tape. Performance listing, album info, and some videos of "Hi, My Name is Ryan" performances can be found here ARCHIVE found at collagecollage.com thetrunkspace: last night a group of terrorists took over the trunk space and made everyone in the building write letters to their parents then eat milk and cookies.
only a few people were hurt. I love this little video of this guy singing my old, almost totally unknown song. Actually, I almost cried. It’s so sweet! "Some things in life just don’t get better: herpes comes to mind, amputated limbs, The Thong Song, etc. It’s a sad but true fact of life, I’m sorry, everyone’s sorry, but we trudge on despite it all and hope it’s not our turn next on the pit-bull attack or draino-heart-injection express way.
That said I’d take an acid bath before subjecting myself to Ryan Avery’s latest explosive diarrhea burst, “Secrets” again. Rude Ryan is one of those things that just hasn’t gotten better and most certainly wasn’t good to start with. I suppose this places him somewhere in the nether regions of musical/artistic/conceptual piss play fetishists whose record you couldn’t tack onto a free meth blowout in South Phoenix as a promotional stocking stuffer. “Secrets” is some form of anti-apologia to his ex-friends, local detractors, and YOU, people of Earth. The audio equivalent of a grown man squealing “nanny nanny boo boo” at you while masturbating after he just kicked over your birthday cake and threw your grandma into a blast furnace. Some sort of wannabe Andy Kaufman-esq anti-art worship that missteps so hard its ankle snaps. As far as I can tell Avery is playing off some sort of reputation he’s been maintaining in the Downtown Phoenix scene. I specify because he explains he has no presence in the Tempe scene in an instructional pamphlet that came with the tape as the result of the Tempe scene not wanting him around, or something. It’s all very vague. Maybe only he is aware of it.. Our hero is obviously very frustrated on this tape over a long list of fuck-ups committed in the last three years, one of which is apparently his own marriage, or at least it’s not explicitly clear due to the 7th grade level tongue-in-cheek tone of the liner notes, regardless he includes a sound clip of his nuptials INCASE YOU MISSED. Somehow Avery landed on the notion that the best course of action for exercising his demons would be field recording himself torturing cats and singing a capella anti-songs about tits and pissing in sinks. Whether or not this is Rude Ry-Dawgs idea of revenge or a comeback attempt is unclear but the whole tape seems like a long process of him smashing his face against a wall and asking it to appreciate it on account of it’s honesty and lack of “coolness,” to use his terminology. There’s also two soundbites of him and his friend Todd or Michael slamming on a poetry slam (INCASE YOU MISSED). Followed by a “studio” quality repeat on the next side. This is the type of humor low-rent Harmony Korrine types get into, even then ranking it among the aesthetic quality of Gummo or Trash Humpers is a generous line of credit… All this aside here I am at 5 AM on a Tuesday hammering this out for no other reason other than I’m bored, between jobs, and have been pretty laid out from eating presumably tainted guacamole. So maybe this is the appropriate soundtrack for the kind of day/week/year I’ve been having. It still isn’t appreciated however, just another bite in this baby vom on sandpaper sandwich." -RCC |
